A photograph dated 13 June 1990 shows Charles Taylor as he carries an AK-47 fitted with a genade launcher at his 'rebel' training camp in Gborplay, Liberia with a truck-load of his young soldiers ready to go fight. At the time Taylor was forging an army to defeat Liberian President Samuel Doe, which he did and Taylor later became president of Liberia. On 04 June 2007 Taylor refused to appear at the opening of his trial in Special Court for Sierra Leone (SCSL) in The Hague where he goes on trial for murder, rape and mutilation during Sierra Leone's civil war.
