U.S. Marine Corps Master Sgt. James Gominsky, a sniper with 1st Battalion, 5th Marine Regiment, takes aim at enemy positions during a firefight at Patrol Base Jaker in Nawa in the Helmand Province of Afghanistan, June 23, 2009. The Marines with 1st Battalion, 5th Marine Regiment, Regimental Combat Team 3, 2nd Marine Expeditionary Brigade - Afghanistan went to see the damage and discuss possible claims. The Marines are at Patrol Base Jaker in order to assume command from soldiers with the British army, Battle Group Center South, 1st Battalion, Welsh Guard, improve living conditions and establish peace for the local residents. The Marines are deployed in support of NATO's International Security Assistance Force and will participate in counter-insurgency operations, and the training and mentoring of Afghan security forces to improve security and stability in Afghanistan.
