CF 98 (Not the medical form)
By RobAK @ Canadian Gunnutz
I wanted one of these pistols for a while now to go with my other Chinese guns. With Lever's dropping of $100 off their previous price(Note: was $599) and the lack of other new toys out there (that aren't being derailed by the Canadian firearms bureaucracy) I thought now would be a good time to pick one up.
I also noticed that there have been a couple members posting that they have these, but no one's done a detailed post on them.
So, here it goes...
The CF98 is a double action 9mm pistol with a rotating, locking barrel. My initial impressions are that I like the grip size as my hands are about as big as a small girl's. I can very easily reach the mag release, slide locking lever, and the de-cocker/safety lever. That said, at this point (still unfired outside the factory) the de-cocker/safety lever is very stiff and rough. I don't know if or how much this will smooth out with use, but time will tell.
With everything else comfortably in reach it surprised me that the trigger is quite the reach in double action. It's just within my comfort area in single action, but when in double, it's out there. Someone with man-hands probably wouldn't have an issue.
Here's the "porn":
The CF98 comes with 2 double-stack magazines (originally meant to be 15 rounders, but pinned to 10 rounds due to our asshat regulations), and a cleaning rod/punch tool.

The glossy (hence the flash glare in the pic below) manual had good pictures, but the person that translated their existing manual into this English version needs to find another job. It was painful to read and try to figure out (I gave up during re-assembly and watched the Pakistani guy on You-Tube for directions):

Also, with all good Norc products comes the famous gun case :

Okay, so here's the pistol stripped:

The left side of the slide has a light marking of "CF98-9" and the serial number. A lot of the components are numbered as well. Even the mags are marked with the gun's serial number, dash, then "1" or "2" depending on the mag (might explain the lack of spares).
ie: ########-1
I'm not familiar with the Steyr, but this one's a double stack. They are loaded similar to an AR with the rounds just pushed down, unlike my other handguns that are pushed down and back to get under the mag lips.
Here's a few mag pics to help out:

It drops the hammer. Here it is engaged:

The trigger isn't too bad. When pulling it in double action you can hear 2 distinct "clicks" in the first third of the trigger pull, but it's smooth.
Truth be told, I didn't have too high of hopes for the gun in the first place, but (so far) it's much better than I was expecting.
So I got it out to the range today where Repete was also able to also put a few mags through it. Hopefully he'll chime in with his thoughts as well.
The trigger is actually quite smooth. The double action take-up is a bit heavy for my liking, but I'm not much of a double action fan to begin with. Probably due to the very lightweight grip portion (the composite feels like it's made from the same composites in my Type 97A) but it has a bit more snap to it when firing than I'm used to.
An funny note is that my wife (extremely limited shooting experience, especially with pistols) shot better with it than with my Sig 226.
One negative that came up though concerns the mag platforms. No feeding issues, but when loading the mags the platforms on both need to be slightly pushed in to get the second round loaded. It's the part of the platform that is bottom right in the top photo:

I have to say that overall, I'm quite impressed with this pistol. I wasn't expecting too much when I ordered it, but (like I was when I saw my Type 97A) I am quite impressed with what the Chinese arsenals are putting out now.
After much delay, here are the results from last weekend's shoot. Reaper, Starlight, and myself were out. The opinions were all positive, as they have been with everyone else who has fired the Cf98. The most common comment is that the quality surprises many who are used to the other Norc guns. Anyways, here are a couple target pics. Targets shot from approx 10m with the American Eagle 147gr TMJ from SFRC. The first was my 3 round group with a 9mm round held up for comparison:

This is the same target with a second shooter's 10 round mag added in:

I seriously believe that if there were more available accessories (holsters, etc) and more shooters gave this gun a chance they would be very popular.
On the issue of purchasing additional mags, I'm still waiting for Lever's reply to the e-mail I sent this past week.
Anyways, if anyone wants any more pics of the gun let me know what.
